Lengthening the Life of Your Brazilian Cherry Hardwood Flooring

It is a well known that that Brazilian Cherry Hardwood Flooring is made of one of hardest and most durable flooring materials available in the market today. Just like everything else though, it does have a lifespan. This lifespan can be lengthened or shortened, depending upon the care that it is given. Here are a few tips to make sure that you get the most out of your Brazilian Cherry Hardwood Flooring.

  • Consult the dealer/installer – When making the purchase, make sure you get the literature on the care of the floor. Take note of the items that should not be done. Some treated woods cannot be waxed, so ask which materials or chemicals are safe for the floor.

  • Purchase an extra box or two of the flooring – it is never too early to care for your flooring. When you purchase the floor for installation, get an extra box or two of the same material. This is in preparation for the future instances of wear and tear of the installed floor. At least you'll have extra material to patch it up.

  • Vacuum or Sweep the floor regularly – use a vacuum with a felt lining, or a soft broom. This is to make sure that the materials do not scratch the surface, as scratches decrease the beauty and value of the floor.

  • Have a few spare pieces of thick cloth available at all times – this is for the movement of furniture. Re-arrangement of furniture is unavoidable, so when it does need to be done, place a cloth under the pieces that are to be moved so that they may be pushed across the floor without damaging the floor surface.

  • Buff – this is for waxed floors in particular. Waxing may be incomplete, so buff the floor to get a good shine. Investing in a buffer may be a good idea.

  • Clean up quickly – spills and other wood staining materials need to be cleaned up as quickly as possible. Don't let the water stand too long on the floor, as it would damage both the finishing and the wood.

  • Do NOT wet mop the floor – some may be tempted to do this, as the water gives a certain shine. This only lasts a few minutes though, and may prove damaging to the floor. Consult the manufacturer of the flooring and ask what materials may be used for its care. Follow those instructions.

The purchase of a Brazilian Cherry Hardwood Flooring is an investment in itself, and caring for it will allow you to keep your investment longer and get the most out of it. Do not be afraid to know what should be done for its care, as it is there to give beauty and elegance to your house.
